Welcome to New China Express

1156 E 7th St, Long Beach, CA 90802

General Info

Tucked along 1156 E 7th St, Long Beach, CA 90802, New China Express is the kind of Chinese restaurant that locals often mention when talking about reliable comfort food in the neighborhood. The location is easy to find, and once inside, the atmosphere feels casual and welcoming-perfect for a quick lunch break or a relaxed dinner after a long day.

From the moment you step up to the counter and glance at the menu, it’s clear that the focus here is on classic Chinese favorites served hot and fresh. One dish that consistently stands out is the Orange Chicken. The pieces are crispy on the outside, tender inside, and coated in a glossy orange sauce that balances sweetness with a gentle citrus tang. It’s one of those plates that keeps people coming back.

Another menu item that deserves attention is the Kung Pao Chicken Fried Rice. It’s a hearty dish with bold flavor-savory rice stir-fried with chicken, vegetables, and the signature kick you’d expect from Kung Pao seasoning. The balance of spice and aroma makes it especially satisfying during dinner hours.

For diners who enjoy a well-rounded plate, the Two Side Special & Wonton Soup is a great pick. This option lets you sample multiple flavors in one meal. Pairing savory sides with a warm bowl of wonton soup creates a comforting combination that works especially well for lunch. The soup itself is light but flavorful, with delicate wontons floating in a clear broth.

Vegetable lovers often gravitate toward the Broccoli dish, which is simple yet surprisingly flavorful. The broccoli stays crisp and bright, and the light sauce enhances the natural taste rather than overpowering it. It’s a refreshing option among the richer items on the menu.

One thing that makes New China Express especially convenient is the variety of services available. Customers can order delivery when they’d rather enjoy their meal at home, or stop by for lunch or dinner when they’re in the Long Beach area. The dining space also includes wheelchair accessible seating, making the restaurant comfortable for a wide range of guests. Payments are simple too, with debit cards accepted at the counter.

Over time, many local reviews highlight the restaurant’s straightforward menu and dependable portions. The location on East 7th Street makes it easy for nearby residents and visitors to drop in, whether they’re craving crispy Orange Chicken or a warm bowl of wonton soup.

New China Express feels like the kind of neighborhood spot where good food and convenience come together naturally. Between the classic dishes, practical services, and accessible location, it fits right into the everyday dining routine of Long Beach.

What customers say?

“ The orange chicken was so crunchy. I loved it and the noodles tasted very good and the rice had a lot of flavor. I didn’t understand what the Chinese lady said but all I said is I wanted half-and-half and she gave me half chow mein half rice and then I told her what else I wanted which was the orange chicken and she understood so I gave her an A plus ”

“ There is better tasting Chinese food out there but not at this price. The portion sizes are also impressive! Staff is super friendly and seems to care about the customers that walk through the door. Dollar for dollar you can't beat this little hole in the wall spot. ”

“ This food is so good we drive from the OC to enjoy delicious egg flowers soup, bbq pork, noodles, the fried fish...all food is tasty and HUGE pieces of fish! Hearty servings for the price. Thanks for always taking care of my husband and I!! ”

“ Easily one of the best Chinese Fast Food locations around. The food is flavorful, plentiful, and fresh. If the owner notices the food has been out for a while, she'll have a fresh batch come out to serve you as you order. Very friendly and prices are more than fair. If you're in the mood for Chinese, you won't regret this spot. ”

“ I am obsessed with their egg flower soup. It's so good with just a hint of soy sauce. Love to pair it with a side of broccoli beef. These two dishes never miss. I have had their potato chicken as well and it was really good, but I just keep going back to the broccoli beef! I would say give their egg flower soup a try when you stop in for sure. Also, shout out to the employees. They are always so kind and patient. ”

“ I found this place a few years ago while working in Long Beach, and it quickly became my go-to. The staff is always kind, and the food is honestly the best! I always get the same thing—chow mein and orange chicken—and it never lets me down. I’ve tried a few other spots, but they always fall short compared to this place. ”

“ Best Chinese food I have ever had! Came randomly to the plaza because I was looking for subway, saw Chinese food was available instead, of course had to go in. There was a line out the door, but they got through it quickly! Ordered simple chow mein and orange chicken. And it was DELICIOUS! Normally I add a lot of soy sauce and chilli to add flavor, this needed none! Highly recommend to anyone in the area. I'm out of the area, but I will be coming back! ”
